Chapter two (go back »)

I slung my satchel over my shoulder and walked out the gates out of school, I turned the corner and ran into Nathan. To stop me from stumbling he grabbed my waist and smirked. "You okay?" He asked. "Yeah, fine." I smiled. He took his hands off my hips. "Yeah well see ya." He said. "Yeah bye." I walked off. Nathan was SO the hottest guy in school, but he never actually noticed me. I had never actually had a crush on him though, although a lot of other girls had pretty much spent their whole time in Highschool pining over him. I took the bus into town, I would go shopping with some non-existing money and then get tea, which I'd beg Maria to give me some (She owns a resteraunt down town and shes my Mums friend, although their not friends anymore, not after Maria saw how they treated me) Then I would sneak into see a late night movie. I groanded though, I had ben doing this so many times over the past term that it was incredibly boring.
I wandered aimlessly around town, I felt like a ghost. Noone saw me, and they all rushed past, I couldnt see their faces. They were all getting away from me, and I tried so hard to keep up but I fell behind with all real humanity. I felt sick and I thought that I would throw up.
I woke up, startled, I felt a cool hand running along my back seductively. I whipped around, but saw noone. I was sure that I had felt something, but then, I was sure I had been awake, but obviously not. It was dark, and I had been having a nightmare, on a bench, in the dark park, that NOONE in their right mind ever actually went across, especially not after dark and ESPECIALLY not anymore, now that the disappearance of a lot of people were actually increasing. I should get out of here. I should go home. I thought placidly, but my mind wasnt working properly, I still felt sick, but in a different way. I was light headed and I felt like I needed to be somewhere, although I had no idea where that somewhere was. I put my pounding head in my hands. I thought I heard a chuckle, but when I turned around, I saw no one, a shiver went up my spine. I had to find out who was there.
I was feeling really weird by now. I could hardly see and I stumbled on into the darkness, there were the streetlights, I would have to go towards them, but as soon as I took 10 steps towards them, they disappeared, and now I was in complete darkness, the forest closing in on me from all sides. My heart pounded, adding to my sick feeling. I had to get home, my head was clearing, now that all the lights were gone and it was only me. I felt a kind of tugging at the corner of my mind, saying move to the right, you'll be home that way.
It was only after about five minutes that I realized it wasnt MY voice in my head that had said that, it was someone elses and by that time, it was far too late.
